To Curb Wasteful Health Spending, Walmart to Send Employees Traveling for Spine Surgery
Walmart, long a leader in adopting new strategies as ways to contain healthcare spend, has adopted the policy that it will require its employees to use certain hospitals for costly spine surgeries, an effort to weed out unnecessary procedures and lower its health-care spending. This is search for better outcomes, and therefore less costly, seems drastic on the headline level, but makes economic sense and its not surprising that Walmart is on the cutting edge of it.
